Ustawi Webs

Ustawi Global believes that collective flourishing can be achieved through connections, learning, and communities coming alive. Ustawi Webs is a program designed to support communities to cultivate authentic relationships and share learning experiences that will sustain transformative community development over multiple generations.

Why?
Ustawi Anchors support households to leverage the awareness gained through the Ustawi Survey to work towards their household and community goals, as identified in Life Maps and Community Reports. Households and communities are supported to advocate for themselves by encouraging them to strengthen social resilience, become empowered creative problem-solvers and develop entrepreneurial skills.

Training and support in entrepreneurial skills cultivates sustainable household businesses.
Household members are supported to build authentic relationships within their communities.

What?
Ustawi Webs is a personalized program that focuses on three key areas of community development:

  • Ustawi Resilience: Cultivating the growth of social capital and influence through naming key people, the type of relationship held and practices that strengthen the resilience of these relationships.
  • Ustawi Learning: Equipping parents, caregivers, and educators with strategies to promote education and support long-term learning outcomes.
  • Ustawi Prosperity: Cultivating economic empowerment through entrepreneurship training, savings group formation, and financial resources.

Ustawi Anchors regularly communicate with households and communities to be an accountability partner as they make progress on the Life Map and Community Report goals.

How?
Ustawi Webs is based on the Web of Support model created by our partner, Kalos Eidos. This model serves as a tool for our households to identify “anchors” in their lives and to more deeply understand the opportunities for authentic relationships within their communities.

Rule of 5
Ideally, each individual will have 5 anchors in their community who support them
Tangible Support
Anchors weave a web of tangible support ‘strings’ by means of food, shelter, education etc.
Intangible Support
Intangible support ‘strings’ are the values and virtues instilled by anchors
Innate Characteristics
An individual’s innate characteristics may alter the degree and type of support required
Scissor Cuts
External circumstances can ‘cut’ the strings of the web of support, putting the individual at risk
Caring for Carers
Each anchor should have their own web of support and be cared for by those that they anchor through gratitude practices
Social Norms
Social norms can be beneficial or harmful to the web of the support
