Cecilia's Story

My life map helped me see my life as a journey—not just stuck in problems. And when they came back to follow up, I felt I wasn’t alone

Cecilia

Who?
As a young, shy girl and new mother, Cecilia faces numerous challenges, including having no income or formal education, and many responsibilities as a stay-at-home mum.

Why?
Her vulnerability was reflected in her initial survey through multiple red indicators across all dimensions, highlighting the hardship she was facing with little autonomy.

What?
Cecilia initially identified three goals as her first steps towards independence:

  1. Secure a balanced diet
  2. Own a mobile phone
  3. Access insurance

How?
Cecilia worked with a dedicated Ustawi Mentor to develop a personalized Life Map that was suited to her household . The team followed up with Cecilia monthly, offering encouragement and support while keeping her focused on her goals. This included helping her to find the tools she needed (water pump and pipes) and connecting her with a local farmer who was able to mentor her agricultural journey to secure a balanced diet for her family.

What’s Next?
Cecilia continues to work on understanding her priorities, setting goals for the future, including creating separate bedrooms for the adults and children in her home. She is working closely with her facilitator to explore these next steps , and is approaching them with increasing confidence, clarity, and commitment.
